Job Description:

The Research Foundation at Binghamton University is leading the New Energy New York (NENY) initiative, coordinating a diverse cross-sector coalition, to create a world-leading battery and energy storage ecosystem in upstate New York. Binghamton has been selected to lead one of the ten U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Regional Innovation Engines (NSF Engine: Upstate New York Energy Storage Engine), with funding of up to $160M to advance three key pillars, use-inspired research and development (R&D), technology translation, and workforce development, in the battery and energy storage field.

The Research Foundation at Binghamton University is seeking a Research and Development (R&D) Program Manager to support the implementation of programs under the use-inspired R&D pillar. The successful candidate will report to the use-inspired R&D lead (Stanley Whittingham) and Steering Group and be responsible for overseeing R&D grants administration, promoting academia/industry/government interactions, facilitating use-inspired R&D education and training, synergizing existing programs, and broadening participation for an inclusive ecosystem.

Requirements:

  • BS in physical sciences, engineering, or related discipline with at least 3 years of proven experience in program management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with grant administration and funding processes

  • Strong understanding of academia, industry, and government collaborations

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong written skills

  • The candidate must be willing to locate either at Binghamton or one of the partner campuses (Cornell, RIT or Syracuse).

Preferred:

  • MS or PhD degree in a physical sciences or engineering field, also preferably related to energy storage or materials science.

  • Experience with programs and practices related to broadening participation in science and technology

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually
