The Business Development Manager – Channel Partner and Strategy role within the Business Development group will be responsible for originating new business consistent with the growth strategy and goals of the business development team in the channel partner / M&A arm of development. In addition, the role will be responsible for managing AES Distributed Energy’s policy analysis including new market entry, utilizing AES’ policy consultants and resources to guide strategy. This role will work with management to formulate, update and refine AES DE’s growth strategy. The Business Development Policy Manager will work with the AES DE Channel Partner origination/development, engineering and construction, legal, and project finance departments, as well as external parties, to execute on a strategy to maximize the value and minimize the risk of AES DE projects. This role requires solar policy experience.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

  • Maintain an up to date knowledge base of policy in existing and developing solar markets

  • Hold regular internal policy meetings to keep the BD team informed of policy updates

  • Evaluate providers of third party solar policy services, manage provider relationship after provider is chosen

  • Attend policy related solar trade shows

  • Coordinate strategy with management and business development team members

  • Develop new project acquisition opportunities and manage such acquisitions

  • Coordinate with project finance team for purposes of evaluation of project and market financial metrics

  • Lead project diligence

  • Lead contract management through coordination with in-house and external counsel

  • Coordinate with Engineering and Construction teams from project inception through project handoff

Position Requirements

  • Four to seven years of experience working in a position analyzing or shaping renewable energy policy across multiple markets.

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering or business; MBA is preferable

  • Strong Microsoft Office application skills Experience with developing and running financial models

  • Experience utilizing CRM systems and developing metrics.

  • Strong presentation, negotiation, written and speaking skills

  • Willing to travel and work outside of normal business hours. Anticipated travel is 15% of time including regular trips to the Boulder office.

  • Highly organized; attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
