Position classification

Hybrid -- Job duties and expectations allow for onsite and remote work scheduled every week. Employees in this classification are regularly scheduled onsite one (1) to four (4) days per week based on the County needs and as determined by Department Director. Hybrid classified roles can be onsite more than the set minimum based on employee preference.

What Success Looks Like In This Job

This position reports to the County Attorney and is intended to provide legal advice and representation to the Adams County Sheriff's Office. This includes advice and representation of the Sheriff's Office in all areas of law enforcement operations, including patrol, jail, civil, and administration.

The County Attorney's Office has elected to consider a range of experience for this vacancy. A candidates' qualifications will determine the level at which they are hired.

Career : $95,384.55-$138,307.60 Annually

Senior: $ 120,420.80 -$ 174,610.16 Annually

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Research and analyze legal liability issues involving law enforcement operations and provide day-to-day advice to the Sheriff and his staff regarding legal compliance.

  • Review policies, procedures, and training for legal compliance.

  • Draft contracts, resolutions, policies, correspondence, and other documents requiring legal expertise.

  • Provide trainings to Sheriff's Office employees and other partners regarding legal liability and compliance.

  • Assist Civil Litigator with evaluation of litigation filed against the Sheriff's Office and provide discovery and research support.

  • Monitor legal developments, including proposed legislation and court decisions.

  • Responsible for reviewing and responding to subpoenas for records and records requests.

  • Represent the Sheriff's Office in court proceedings, including appearance for subpoena returns.

  • Depending upon qualifications, may provide legal advice regarding personnel matters.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities, including assistance with other legal matters as required by the County Attorney.

  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and calmly in situations of conflict, whether with opposing counsel, employees, elected officials, or co-workers.

  • Ability to perform statutory interpretation and legal research and analysis.

  • Working knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of evidence.

  • Ability to interpret and apply legal principles.

  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment, and work effectively without close supervision.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Proficiency in current computer software programs used for daily job functions, including knowledge of Lexis-Nexis and/or Westlaw legal software.

  • Ability to interpret and apply legal principles to complex legal problems.

More Qualifications for Success

Career:

  • Experience: 5 years of experience as a licensed attorney in field related to assignment.

  • Education and Training: Must possess a law degree from an accredited law school.

  • License or Certificate:

  • Must be licensed to practice law with the State of Colorado.

  • Background Check:Must pass a criminal background check.

Senior:

  • Experience: 10 years of experience as a licensed attorney in field related to assignment.

  • Education and Training: Must possess a law degree from an accredited law school.

  • License or Certificate:

  • Must be licensed to practice law with the State of Colorado.

  • Background Check:Must pass a criminal background check.
