T. Parker Host Operations Team Lead in Davant, Louisiana
In 2019, T. Parker Host acquired United Bulk Terminals (UBT) on Mile 55 of the Mississippi River as one of the largest bulk terminals in the U.S. Gulf, specializing in coal and petcoke. This 1,200 acre property in Davant, Louisiana is capable of extensive loading, discharging and storage – with deep-water docks, fleeting capacity for 500 barges and over 40 pieces of heavy equipment to handle cargo loads.
Since the acquisition, HOST has made extensive improvements in systems and equipment, making the facility safer, more environmentally friendly, and more efficient to better serve our customers
Position Summary: Supervise operational teams in vessel loading and barge discharging and ensure team’s work is performed safely and to the requirements of the terminal and the customer.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Review stevedore pre-vessel operational checklist with Terminal Manager
Confirm assigned personnel have arrived as scheduled
Ensure all operational equipment is in good working order and prepared for operation
Conduct pre-shift meetings with operational teams on safety and daily task operations
Ensure that immediate working area is safe to work and that all team members are wearing required PPE
Closely supervise operational teams in vessel loading and barge discharging to ensure all safety, cleanliness and efficiency measures are being utilized at all times
Identify operational issues and concerns, resolve and/or make recommendations to terminal management, counsel stevedore team personnel as necessary
Communicate with chief/captain/receivers/manager/agent as needed during shift and pass relevant information to next shift supervisor
Coordinate post-vessel clean up and equipment maintenance, refueling and storage
Provide copy of shift report to terminal managers at end of each shift
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:
College Degree
Previous experience in cargo handling and operating heavy machinery
Working knowledge of health and safety procedures
Ability to interpret ship loading plans
Demonstrated ability to lead people
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Proficiency with computers
Physical Requirements:
Work in most weather conditions and around heavy machinery, which can be dangerous at times
Shift work which may require early mornings, evenings and weekends
Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
