About You and this Role

Dow has an exciting job opportunity as an Electrical Testing Technician in Freeport, Texas.

This position is within the Technical Support department and provides electrical support equipment across all of the Texas Operations plants. Primary responsibility includes electrical systems acceptance testing, maintenance testing, troubleshooting, repair/re-conditioning, startup & commissioning and implementing long-term solutions for low, medium and high voltage electrical equipment. Equipment includes but not limited to: power transformers, circuit breakers (OCB, Vacuum, SF6), switchgear, motor starters, cables, motors and protective devices.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical acceptance testing of new installations to meet InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) certifications.

  • Electrical maintenance testing of in-service equipment. (online visual inspections and offline testing).

  • Provide scope and testing of electrical equipment during facility outages and turnarounds.

  • Create testing timeline and cost estimates.

  • Provide technical support on electrical design upgrades of switchgear and controls. Also support project design of new equipment.

  • Motor protection relay calibrations, settings, and installations per manufacturer's specifications.

  • Perform scheduled, predictive maintenance services for electrical equipment based on Manufacturer's specifications IEEE, and Dow's experience.

  • Reconditioning, troubleshooting and repair of low, medium and high voltage electrical equipment.

  • Electrical AC and DC Motor testing, troubleshooting & repair.

  • Troubleshooting line power quality issues.

  • Perform Grounding Systems Testing.

  • Power-factor (Doble) and hi-potential testing.

  • Transformer Tap Changer & Leak Repairs/Bushing Replacement.

  • Equipment Failure Analysis.

  • Cable Fault Locating.

  • Electrical Documentation updates (one line diagrams and control circuit drawings).

  • Responsible for using and revising electrical-testing procedures, documentation and evaluation of all test results.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • One of the following qualifications is also required: An Associate's Degree or higher in Electrical Technology or a recognized Instrument or Electrical Apprenticeship Program.

  • A minimum of 3 Years of Electrical experience in an industrial industry.

  • Must have a current, valid US Driver's License.

  • Be able to effectively communicate and understand the needs of the businesses and functions.

  • Strong electrical safety focus. Consistently have zero injuries and actively support safety policies and initiatives

  • Must be willing to make call outs and work overtime per department needs.

  • Travel may consist of trips between departments and plants within the Gulf Coast Region (Texas and Louisiana).

  • Department work start time is 6:00am.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills

  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code and Knowledge of the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) testing specifications.

  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.

  • No relocation assistance is available for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes with or without an accommodation.

  • Wear and use respirators.

  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.

  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.

  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.

  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
