The Physical Security Operator position directly supports the Infrastructure Security Organization for all ongoing activities that serve to provide appropriate access to, and protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of employee and business information in compliance with organization policies, procedures and regulatory requirements including NERC's Cyber Security Standards. Specifically, this position is responsible for monitoring and processing alarm events, camera system alerts, access control system events, and communications requests within the Security Operations Center supporting US Operations. The position requires working an 8-hour or 12-hour rotating shift that includes weekends and holidays.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duties of the Physical Security Operator are to support compliance activities by monitoring facility access and initiate alarm procedures, monitor multiple camera systems for activity and events, and process phone calls and email requests for events incoming from multiple company facilities. Responsibilities include initiating notification system alerts for designated facilities, performing logical investigations for company assets and personnel, overseeing visitor managements procedures and activities at secure locations, and performing physical access control log monitoring. Security Operators will also create and process badge ID requests, create summary reports, activity reports and incident reports, and verify event threshold processing activities. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English with internal and external customers, responds to requests for supporting information, and perform other duties as assigned. This position is a NERC/CIP regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on the incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC and other compliance training.
The Physical Security Operator position requires excellent problem solving and decision making skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and the ability to perform duties effectively under emergency situations. Primary qualifications include:
0-3 years' experience performing alarm system event processing, physical access control system usage, dispatch operations, emergency notification systems, writing reports, computer operations, camera system monitoring, and alert analysis.
Meet on-the-job training expectations and successfully test against SOC systems within twelve months.
Interpret technical manuals, execute written procedures and prepare guideline documentation.
Have strong report writing skills and communicate as a native English speaker.
Must have the ability to work well with other people from varying disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
In addition, the Physical Security Operator position must be able to meet Incident handling procedures and on-gong evaluations, and support preparing, maintaining, and following procedures for logging, reporting and monitoring physical security operations.
An ideal candidate will have two or more years' experience in the Energy or Utility industry, experience supporting a 24 x 7 real time operations environment, experience supporting systems subject to regulatory compliance requirements, or experience with FERC, NERC, RFC, or PJM.
An Associates or Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, law enforcement, military, security operations, or equivalent education and experience
This position requires work in a secure workplace environment. The facility lacks windows or access to the outside environment. The position requires sitting or standing for long periods of time.
