Requirements:

A. Education - Bachelor's degree, from an accredited College or University, preferred. High school diploma or equivalent may substitute for coursework requirement if the incumbent has two years experience working with youth. B. Experience - Two years experience working with youth. C. Skills - Requires a sound understanding of group dynamics, reality therapy, crisis intervention, management behavior theory, delinquent youth problems, and alcohol and drug addiction disease theory. Requires certification in First Aid and CPR. Requires an intermediate level of verbal, written, planning, and counseling skills. Ability to make decisions for devising new methods or adapting standard principles or practices to new or changed conditions. Requires discretion and judgment in making decisions. D. Physical Demands - Must be able to lift 30 pounds from floor level to shoulder height. Extensive walking and standing required. Must be capable of detecting and rapidly responding to client altercations, attempts at self-harm, or escape attempts, and must be able to apply approved physical restraint techniques. Must be capable of participating with clients in active and passive team or individual activities in outdoor or indoor environments, occasionally during inclement weather. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the appropriate state and to the extent that knowledge is attainable under the law. Must be able to transport youth in event of emergency. E. Other - Must maintain an appropriate and valid state driver's license. Must meet state criminal background check requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

I. Position Summary: This position requires an advanced and experienced Safety and Security Specialist with adequate knowledge of the operations of waking-hour shifts and non-waking hour shifts in a residential program for adjudicated delinquents. Those employed in this position are expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and independent decision-making in frequent association with staff and residents of the program. II. Essential Duties: Ensure proper physical counts, organized movement of resident population, and overall security of campus and its inhabitants. Completes perimeter check of campus ensuring buildings, vehicles, and equipment are secure and in good order. Ensure proper care and monitoring of moderate risk youth, reviews youth counts. Supervises the activities of a group of youths, maintaining knowledge of the whereabouts of all group members. Comply with published procedures on movement, physical security, contraband, physical counts, and reporting. Provides a safe, secure environment using group counseling techniques, individual relationships, positive discipline techniques through effective use of the behavior modification system (IChoose), and the use of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed. Ensures and arranges, in cooperation with direct supervisor, proper coverage of work posts, and maintenance of appropriate staff/student ratios always. Provide supervision for a shift of three to eight Safety and Security Specialists in performance of their duties in Shift Supervisors absence including but not limited to providing/arranging for their training, on-the-job coaching, communicating all staffing issues to shift supervisor. When working in Supervisory capacity, organizes and ensures staff and youth's compliance with master schedules and sub-schedules concerning group meetings, mealtimes, education, recreation, details and bedtime routines policies and standards. Assist and promote successful completion of daily activities as scheduled and as needed to ensure opportunities for youth recognition so that the treatment goals of youths can be realized. III. Other Duties Include, But Not Limited to: Participate in training and development activities as required. Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inapp opriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships. Perform other duties as assigned
