Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Accountant is a new role created to develop a recent Accounting graduate over time from entry level into a righthand person and solid backup for the CFO. The ideal candidate is one that wants to stay long term in the Mankato area and wants to work in private industry for a good size company. This person will have a unique opportunity to learn all areas of accounting within one position and will gain experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, project accounting, general ledger, financial statement reporting and analysis, budgeting, physical inventory, working with auditors, preparing sales tax returns, tracking fixed assets, etc. This is an excellent opportunity for a new role to grow with the person and will ultimately take over many daily responsibilities from the CFO allowing the CFO to spend time with other initiatives. The person in this role could potentially meet the experience requirement for CPA licensure. The primary role of the Accountant is to ensure timely and accurate processing of various accounting tasks according to company policies as directed by the CFO. The Accountant will work closely with the CFO and gain knowledge in various accounting and financial areas of the company. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare journal entries with required backup and post to system as assigned. Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and analyses as assigned. Maintain fixed asset sub ledger and vehicle listing and manage capital expenditures according to policy and budget. Assist with consolidation of financial statements and elimination entries. Assist with preparing internal financial statements and other reports. Prepare backup, reconcile and file various assigned tax filings. Assist with month end close and reporting as directed. Assist with audits and tax issues as directed. Assist with annual physical inventory. Assist with annual budget process. Provide support and backup to all accounting functions within the company including AP, AR, Project Billing, Service Billing, Payroll, Project Admin, Service Admin, etc. as directed. Identify and implement best practices and efficient procedures to streamline processes and improve operations. Other projects and duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFICATION: Education/Experience: BS Degree in Accounting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality. Highly motivated and strong initiative for learning. Highly customer service oriented. Strong leadership skills and demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all levels of employees in a team-oriented environment. Experience working in the construction industry or related field is highly desirable. Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic recommendations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity in financial reporting. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities. Other critical skills include planning & organizing; problem identification/resolution, multi-tasking,follow-through skills to bring tasks to closure in a timely manner, priority setting, and having a sense of urgency in accomplishing tasks in a timely manner.
