Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for coordination of the day-to-day operations of the hospital. Specific responsibilities include: Performance Improvement; enforcing policies and procedures; staffing/productivity; and nursing care for specific patient populations. Works closely with staff, physicians, and other directors to ensure quality patient care. Guides staff in the implementation of the nursing process and directs the cost effective allocation of resources.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job.

ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS:

· RN with broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of facility Plan of Care unit-based admission, discharge, and exclusion criteria

· Minimum 2 years’ experience in leadership responsibilities – can include charge nurse experience

· Current state licensure

· Effective conflict resolution skills

· Effective strategic, logistical and critical thinking with pro-active decision making and negotiation skills

· Ability to facilitate daily Bed Huddles and develop action plans to mitigate discharge barriers

· Ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships

· Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously

· Able to have crucial conversations in a confident manner

· Able to work independently with minimal supervision and able to work effectively within teams

· Proficient in MEDITECH and other applications/technology supporting bed management

· Other duties as assigned.

B. Job Specific: As defined by the unit specific standards as outlined in the orientation policy based on the area of practice

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • BSN required from an accredited institution. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current FL RN license required or appropriate compact licensure. If compact license held in another state, active FL RN compact license required within 90 days of hire. Advanced Nurse Practitioner license acceptable· American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification required within 30 days* *Instructor certifications interchangeable with required certifications EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

  • Minimum of 5 years acute care experience required

  • Progressive management experience preferred SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Reads and writes basic English with the basic skills necessary to transcribe physician’s orders

  • Knowledge of body substance isolation

  • Ability to listen, empathize, and respond to patient, family, internal and external partner needs

  • Basic computer skills

  • Displays a positive attitude

  • Psychosocial skills

  • Teambuilding skills

  • Leadership skills preferred

  • Assists Senior Executive Leadership in tracking and trending barriers to patient flow; makes recommendations and develops action plans to improve processes and systems

  • Facilitates patient throughput with an on-going focus on quality and efficiency

  • Screens admissions, using defined admission criteria, for appropriateness of level of care orders and bed assignments

  • Navigates or resolves medical necessity issues, admission status issues, and bed assignment conflicts; escalates as needed to the appropriate resources

  • Prioritizes bed requests, coordinates bed reservations, and promptly assigns bed reservation holds for all admissions and transfers in the hospitalCUSTOMERS SERVED: All employees, staff of Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center in both clinical and non-clinical departments, including patients/families, physicians, volunteers, agency, contract, students and the community. COMPETENCIES: The competencies identified for this position are summarized and reviewed periodically throughout employment.
