QUALIFICATIONS :

Must have high school diploma or GED and understanding of mechanics and machinery required. Must pass the EEI POSS Test. Must have a high degree of mechanical and electrical aptitude. An understanding of basic math and elementary chemistry is preferred. All other general qualifications relative to physical fitness, safety record, attendance and punctuality, and aptitude tests will be considered in the evaluation. The applicant must be willing to devote time and study toward self-improvement.

Additional consideration will be given for the following job-related training or experience:

  1. Previous operating experience;

  2. Advanced education or special training; and

  3. Any other qualifications contributing to the applicant’s ability to perform the job.

PRIMARY DUTIES :

Works as an SO2 scrubber auxiliary operator on roving assignment, assisting the SO2 scrubber operators in duties pertaining to the operation of two or more flue gas desulphurization systems auxiliaries. Performs such duties as:

  1. Assisting SO2 scrubber operators in placing the various pieces of equipment in service and/or removing them from service; observing and inspecting the operation of the flue gas desulphurization system auxiliaries during operation; troubleshooting equipment problems to enter a work request for repairs;

  2. Operating all isolated equipment and related chemical analysis apparatus as required in the limestone preparation area, thickener/sludge waste and gypsum process areas, and scrubber area; monitoring the operation of the various SO2 removal system subsystems (scrubber modules, demister, flue gas, limestone preparation, waste slurry, pumps, fans, tanks, controls, conveyors, feeders, filters, etc.);

  3. Sampling, testing and interpreting analysis; coordinating activities with other operators, maintenance and certain technical and laboratory personnel for maximum safety and economy;

  4. Changing charts, taking readings, and keeping operating logs and records according to a pre-assigned schedule; cleaning, oiling, and greasing equipment; assisting other operators as directed; and

  5. Working on a rotating shift assignment and preparing to advance to the next job in the line of progression.

Performs other work as circumstances may require.

WORKING CONDITIONS : Generally, plant atmosphere of heat, dirt, noise and fumes. Some outdoor work in various types of weather.
