Copeland Research Engineer (HVACR) in Sidney, Ohio

You will be involved and help drive in the ideation, innovation, evaluation, and implementation of compression solutions/new technologies for current and future business products/needs. You will apply your skills to validate these new technologies through the use of analytical and experimental tools and techniques, working closely with our design engineers and lab technicians. This role is a great opportunity to support the HVACR business.

As a Research Engineer, you will:

  • Work within the compressor research team to help identify solutions around compressor-centric HVACR problems and opportunities.

  • Assess the viability of compression solutions for performance, cost, and reliability using both analytical and experimental data.

  • Work closely with internal/external functional experts to help with formulating analysis requests/setting tasks, interpreting results, and creating technical solutions/resolving any roadblocks.

  • Develop, enhance, and apply analytical tools, as necessary.

  • Create and follow-up on project objectives/timelines, and provide project updates on a regular basis.

  • Where possible, follow through on any intellectual property opportunities with patent disclosures.

  • If successful, be able to hand-off compression solutions with sufficient data to product development groups.

Who you are:

You are able to create/develop solutions in collaboration with others and identify the requirements for validating these solutions. You will apply your skills to use and develop analytical tools to support the design of compressor prototypes for empirical assessments. You are able to communicate clear objectives and results, which will help to decide future development.

Required education, experience, & skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • Up to three years of engineering experience with rotating machinery or relevant industry experience

  • Proven success in demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with multiple functional groups

  • Must be self-motivated and be able to define and follow a project schedule

Preferred education, experience, & skills:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Three (3)+ years of engineering experience, particularly in HVACR compressor design and analysis

  • Understanding of the refrigeration cycle, thermodynamics, and HVACR systems

  • Experience in the development/implementation of various analytical tools

  • Knowledge and experience with structured problem-solving methodologies

About Our Location

Our newly renovated Sidney campus has 1M square feet of manufacturing floor with an additional 120k square feet of groundbreaking lab facilities. This location is the headquarters for our HVACR Americas business unit. Through our many years of compressor expertise, our products help bring comfort and convenience to refrigeration, commercial, industrial, and residential spaces. Approximately 1600 employees work in Sidney, who all support a multitude of business functions.
