South Bend Empowerment Zone 2024 EL Summer School Program Empowering Futures Grades 8 & 9 in South Bend, Indiana

POSITION TITLE: Certified Teachers (Two teacher for 8th Grade and two teachers for 9th Grade) RECRUITED BY: Director, Bilingual Services Department IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director, Bilingual Services Department/Site administrator SALARY RANGE: Contract hourly rate according to current contract agreement CONTRACT LENGTH: Mandatory Training Session: Friday, June 7th, 2024 Classes: June 10th through July 12th, 2024 Monday - Friday (5 hour work day - 8:00am - 1:00pm) No school on Wednesday, June 19, Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5 LOCATION: Clay International Academy POSITION SUMMARY: Provide quality instruction based on the individual needs of every English Learner using the Summer Camp curriculum in English Language Arts/Reading, Math, and Social Emotional Learning CANDIDATE MUST: Have a valid Indiana Teacher’s License and highly-qualified status ESL/ENL certified or have proof of significant EL coursework (preferred) Must be a classroom teacher for the 2023-2024 school year Implement the summer camp curriculum for 8th and ninth grade students Provide oral and written assessments to measure student mastery in English Language Arts Provide EL onsite administrator with student records, including daily attendance; assessments, student portfolios, etc. Attend training session as listed above QUALIFICATIONS: Should have the ability to understand and accept the philosophy of the Bilingual Services Department in reference to the education of English Learners Should have experience in incorporating new technologies into instruction Highly proficient with using school technologies and software applications for ELs Must have the ability to facilitate a student-centered curriculum (must provide evidence) Have recent EXCELLENT communication skills and proven ability to work with English Learners in grades K-8 Must have knowledge of research-based instructional strategies, methodology, and materials for EL students Evidence of ongoing training in best-practice instruction of elementary or middle school education Knowledge of second-language acquisition theory and practice May not currently be recommended for a Performance Improvement Plan Able to manage students while on scheduled field trips PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a classroom teacher, the teacher in this position should have the knowledge and skills to do the following: Provide instruction using best practices for English Learners Provide instruction with integration of technology Work in collaborative teams to provide practical support in reading, writing, listening, and speaking strategies for English Learners Work collaboratively with Bilingual Services Department staff Supervise and provide direction for a classroom Instructional Resource Specialist and/or Bilingual Education Specialist in support of instruction (if assigned) Provide differentiated instruction based on Indiana WIDA ELD Standards and students’ academic needs Attendance is required for in-service training sessions SPECIAL NOTATION: The position requires that staff must be present throughout the duration of the entire Summer EL Program. Vacations must be taken prior to the start date of June 7th, 2024 and after July 12, 2024. The position also requires a flexible scheduling of work responsibilities. " />
